Our winery’s highest priority is preserving our tradition and our great quality. We are one of the oldest, most distinctive wineries in the Palatinate region. Our wines are pressed using only the finest hand-selected grapes, which undergo spontaneous fermentation in wooden barrels. Our motto, “Wine is the poetry of the earth,” (Mario Soldati, 1907-1999) sums up our philosophy. When it comes to wine production, the most important thing for us is the quality that ends up in the glass! This standard creates wines with a perfect balance of strength, elegance and longevity, and many of our wines have garnered attention throughout the world. Our successful development was initiated by Bernd Philippi. He is often able to create wines with amazingly long shelf lives, especially Rieslings, which can sometimes come across as a bit headstrong in their younger days. But over time they undergo an interesting development that is valued by many experts.
Kallstadter Annaberg is the youngest wine-growing region. About 120 years ago, a winery owner named his property after his wife. Later, the name was adopted for the whole area. It is located right on the edge of the forest and is characterized by a high proportion of sandstone. The western part of the region features a chalk substrate where our Chardonnay grows.
The Kallstadter Kreidkeller extends between Saumagen and Annaberg. Its name comes from the region’s chalky soil, which was created around 25 million years ago!
The “Kallstadter Saumagen” region was established in 1810/36. It is located at the western edge of the city and is considered the best location in Kallstadt, even one of the best in Germany. The Saumagen is characterized by calcareous limestone, which gives Rieslings their distinctive mineral quality.
The Kallstadter Steinacker region is located east of the German wine route. It is a wine-growing region characterized by chalk and sandstone, where we grow Riesling and Scheurebe that feature a residual sweetness.
